If you graduated in 2014 or thereafter, you have two options regarding your UCInetID@uci.edu email address.
- Keep your current UCI Gmail account (or sign up for it if you haven't done so already)
- Setup alumni email forwarding to another, non-UCI email account of your choice (e.g. Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo, etc).
If you graduated prior to 2014, please visit this page instead.
Please note: If you haven't signed up for UCI Gmail (meaning you are still using ES Mail aka 'webmail') and wish to preserve your current email messages, you will need to transfer them to your post-graduation account yourself. Instructions on how to transfer the messages can be found here.
1. Keep Your UCI Gmail
If you haven't already signed up for UCI Gmail, you must do so within 1 year from your date of graduation. If you miss this deadline, you will not be able to sign up after that time.
Once a year you must renew your account to keep it active for another year. OIT will send you several reminders, so keep an eye out for this email. Simply click the link in the email and follow the steps to renew the account. Failure to do so will cause your account to be suspended and eventually deleted.
2. Setup Alumni Email Forwarding
If you choose to have your post-graduation UCInetID@uci.edu email sent to another off-campus account, all you need to do is signup to forward new email to that account.
What's my UCInetID?
Your UCInetID is the first part of your email address. It is not your ID number. For example, the UCInetID for Peter Anteater (email address is email@example.com) is panteate.
I forgot my UCInetID.
I'm having trouble logging in.
If you're having trouble logging in to your UCI Gmail account, select the link at the top of the page to reset or change your UCI Gmail password.
If you're having trouble logging in to EEE or StudentAccess, you may need to reset or change your UCInetID password. Please note: alumni cannot login to any other UCI web services (including PHUpdate & the VPN).
Can I still use the VPN and access the Library's resources/journals from off-campus?
No. Alumni lose access to the VPN one year after graduation. You are welcome to come on-campus and use our wi-fi to access those resources from your personal computer or you may use the computers in the Library.
To use our wi-fi, we must first register the MAC address of your wireless device. OIT can help you with this request when the time comes, as you will not be able to do this on your own.
Why is my UCI Gmail account suspended?
Alumni are required to annually renew their UCI Gmail accounts; failure to do so will result in account suspension and eventually deletion. OIT will send you multiple reminders to do this, but if you aren't checking your account regularly you'll miss them.
Please note that when calling the Help Desk, sometimes the phone agent will not be able to see the reason why you are suspended and will need to open a ticket to escalate the issue. When this occurs, someone will be in touch by phone or email soon thereafter to explain the reason for the suspension.
Why must I renew my UCI Gmail account annually?
While many of our alumni initially want to keep their Gmail accounts post-graduation to stay in touch with friends or seek jobs, over time many of them will abandon their accounts. Accounts that are abandoned will eventually have stale passwords and may become targets for hackers. To minimize the risk, you will be sent several email reminders 1 month before your account is suspended.
Failure to renew the account will result in suspension and eventual deletion. Once your account is deleted, it is irrecoverable and you will not be given another account.
I have an ES Mail (aka Webmail) account, not UCI Gmail. Can I keep this mailbox after graduation?
You can keep your @uci.edu email address; however, you cannot keep the actual mailbox as it will be deleted one year after graduation. Please visit this site for instructions on how to backup your email to your personal computer for safekeeping and to setup Alumni Email Forwarding from your @uci.edu address to an address of your choosing.
I am a Merage MBA alum. How long do I keep my Office 365 mailbox?
Merage MBAs keep their Office 365/Exchange mailboxes for just 3 months post-graduation. They are encouraged by their school to setup Alumni Email Forwarding and not use UCI Gmail post-graduation because most of their graduates tend to stop using their school accounts after a while. To ensure that email sent from the Alumni Association still reaches them, they recommend setting up forwarding.
