Students Leaving UCI Checklist

Graduate on Anteater

Summary: When you are leaving UCI OIT recommends you takes some steps to stay connected and backup your information.

Stay Connected

Gain access to an array of resources and discounts after you graduate through the UCI Alumni Association.

Setup your Alumni Email

Students who graduate from UCI qualify to keep an Email connection to UCI. To review your options for email as alumni, visit the Alumni page in the Help Center.

Backup Your Data

When you are no longer a UCI student, whether you graduate, transfer or leave for other reasons, your UCInetID will lose access to many services after about 1 year. Be sure to backup any data that you want to keep, including old emails, on your personal computers.

  • The easiest way to backup your email is to use one of our supported email clients on your personal computer and copy all mail from the OIT or Gmail servers to folders stored locally on your computer. For more information and detailed instructions, please see this article on backing up your email.

Uninstall UCI Licensed Software

If you installed any software from OIT during your time at UCI, please make sure to uninstall it if the license requires it. SAS for example, is only available for your use while you are enrolled at UCI. Helping OIT comply with its license agreements makes sure we can continue to make software available to future students.

Students who signed up for the Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus - Personal Use program can only use the software so long as they are enrolled. One year after graduation, it will cease to work and at that time, you may consider signing up for a paid plan from Microsoft (not OIT) to keep using the software.

In addition, please uninstall the Cisco Anyconnect VPN client as you will no longer be able to access restricted campus resources from off-campus.

Alumni Access to the Campus Wi-FI & UCI Web Services (including the Library)

Alumni may continue to use UCInet Mobile Access (campus wi-fi) for as long as they like, whenever they return to the campus. If you encounter any problems joining your devices to the campus wi-fi, please feel free to stop by our walk in help desk at Aldrich Hall, Room 115 between 9-5, M-F. Bring picture ID and we'll help you get back on the wi-fi.

The following UCI Web Services will remain accessible to alumni post-graduation:

  • EEE
    • If your former professors left content posted, you'll see it. You will not see any new content for the current quarter.
  • StudentAccess
    •  To view unofficial transcripts from the Registrar.

All other Web Services (including the VPN to access restricted campus resources as well as Library journals and periodicals online) will no longer be accessible, as they are restricted to current students only. For those alumni who wish to access the Library journals and periodicals online, you can come to campus and use one of the computers in the Library or use your own computer on the campus wi-fi.

As an alternative to the Library's online resources, please note that the Alumni Association offers access to the Ebscohost Publication Database, provided you sign up and pay for a Lifetime Membership. This service provides full-text versions of more than 2,400 periodicals -- including close to 2,050 peer-reviewed journals -- as well as indexes and abstracts for more than 7,380 publications in every area of academics study.

To signup for the Lifetime Membership, visit the UCI Alumni Association's website.
