Help Desk Student Assistant
Starting Salary Range: $9.00 - $10.00 hr., DOE
Summary: OIT is seeking student assistants with strong people skills to work at the Help Desk Help Desk and computer labs. The successful candidate will enjoy helping people with various technical issues. On-campus jobs offer the opportunity to get paid while learning new skills and a schedule that works around your classes.
Applicants must be registered as full-time or half-time undergraduate UCI students.
This position requires strong customer service skills and is not a programming-related position
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:
- Friendly attitude and the desire to help people.
- Working experience in a customer service environment.
- Ability to maintain a positive team attitude and demonstrate professional behavior.
- Computer experience, especially with Windows machines.
- Trouble shooting and problem solving abilities.
- Experience using e-mail software packages including Thunderbird, Outlook Express, Webmail.
- Experience using common software packages including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Web browsers.
Following are Desired:
- Experience using wireless networking
- Experience using campus VPN
- Experience using campus telephone system
- Experience using scanners and peripherals
- Experience writing technical documentation
- Experience using Macintosh
- Familiarity with Web tools such as FTP, SSH, etc
- Knowledge of UNIX commands (desired)
Position description
Under direct supervision, help customers in the OIT computer labs and
Help Desk with services we support including computing, network, and telephone.
- Help customers in computer labs with questions. Monitor the lab.
- Help customers at Help Desk with both walk in and telephone inquiries.
- Special projects as assigned
- Flexible hours, on campus.
