Phone System Server Upgrade on Friday March 31st from 10:00PM through Saturday, April 1st 2AM

Purpose: Upgrading phone system servers

Services Affected:

We are upgrading our server software to a 64-bit operating system. We'll be using new hard drives pre-configured with the new operating system to reduce our system outage window.

Impact -

The campus phone system will be down during the maintenance window while installation and testing are performed by OIT and vendor staff. Central Plant and Police Department are priority departments, and are expected to be returned to service within the first 30 minutes. Other locations will resume service as we progress through our phone sites.

During the maintenance window, calls, voicemail, and ACD (Call Center) services from and to campus phones will not be available.

911 calls to the UCIPD from outside lines, including cellular, will not be impacted.

After the upgrade is complete:
o User handsets will require re-enabling their diversion (call forwarding) function
o For all phones that have personal profiles or call lists, the phones will default to Profile #1. Personal profiles will be activated for all phones, regardless of their status before the maintenance window.

If you have an important call-forwarding function that you would like to have enabled after the upgrade, submit a Service Request Form with the details of your request.

New version of Firefox (v52) may cause some older websites (like EDL) to stop working on March 2017

Purpose: Announcing end of support for EDL in Firefox

Services Affected:

New version of Firefox may cause some older websites to stop working. Firefox discontinued support for NPAPI plugins in it’s latest version (this includes sites that use the Java applet like EDL, as well as Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Silverlight, etc.)
Workaround: Use Internet Explorer (or Safari for Mac users)

Action required:
· General users: If you run into an issue where a website does not load properly, use Internet Explorer (Safari if you use a Mac) instead to view the website.
· Developers: If you have an application that only runs on Firefox and may be affected by the issue above, please contact Jeremy Paje at 949-824-2731 or e-mail jpaje@uci.edu asap.

Details:
Beginning in Firefox version 52, Firefox has ended support for NPAPI plugins. Some of the plugins that will no longer work include Java, Microsoft Silverlight, and Adobe Acrobat. Firefox 52 was deployed last week to the test group and is scheduled to deploy to the rest of production this Thursday evening.

More info may be found here:
https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Problems-with-add-ons-plugins-or/Why-do-Java-Silverlight-Adobe-Acrobat-and-other-plugins-no/ta-p/31069

NOTE: Some users may opt to use Firefox ESR 52 (32-bit version for Windows, 64-bit for macOS) which will continue to support Java for one more year; however, certain features and enhancements may not be available in this version and will not be supported by OIT. Please speak with your CSC for more information.
