When is DCS going to support linux?
We support redhat linux now, if you buy the right hardware. Don't just go buy
something and assume we'll support it!
Please send questions or comments (with regard to anything in this document)
to DCS.
Supported Hardware
We support redhat linux 4.2, 5.1 and 5.2 on intel (not 6.0, not 6.1). You
should only get hardware that runs 5.2 at this time. When you purchase
hardware for linux that is to be under DCS' support, we
want you to do one of three things:
- Buy a machine certified for use with redhat 5.2, listed
here. Don't get something that only works with 6.0, make sure it'll run
5.2.
- Buy a machine from a linux vendor, who'll iron out the hardware
compatibility issues for you, and put their name behind it working well.
There's a decent list of them here. They're going to tend to want to sell you something that only
runs a more recent version of redhat - you must insist they stick to 5.2, and
5.2 that runs without custom drivers as well.
- This option is same as #2 above, except it's ok if they give you a 5.2
system that requires custom drivers, so long as they also give you appropriate
boot disks for reinstalling the system when the time comes. Reinstalls
may seem far off, but 2 to 3 years flies by pretty quickly, usually. If you
go this route, we want to make a copy of the boot disk, so we aren't
sunk if the floppy gets lost or develops a bad block.

to say "Sorry, we don't support anything more recent than Redhat 5.2 at this
time."
