Front Door Software Security

Woman using a smart phone

Unfortunately, the mobile device you rely on may be stolen. Thieves are always on the lookout for the right opportunity to steal laptops, smartphones and tablets. FBI statistics suggest there is only a 3% chance of getting an unprotected device back.

You can now protect your devices using Front Door Software for FREE. The software is available to UCI faculty, staff, and students - anyone with an address. More than 2,500 people have already signed up at UCI. There is no limit to the number of devices - personal or university owned - that can be equipped with the software.

If your device is stolen or lost, you can blast a message that states "THIS IS STOLEN!", lock it down remotely to protect your information, send a text message to the thief, send an audio message to the thief, and even get a Google map to its current location.

Please note that this product is designed to help get lost or stolen devices back, not to protect data security. If you have sensitive data of any sort on your laptop or mobile device, we recommend encrypting it. Visit the OIT Information Security website for more information on how to best safeguard your data.

NOTE: Front Door Software will not work with versions of macOS newer than 10.14 (Mojave). There are no plans for the vendor to make it compatible with newer versions of the operating system.
