Campus Search

The campus search tool is being updated in August 2018. Our current solution has reached end-of-life and is no longer supported. The replacement solution will allow us to continue offering a combined search of the hundreds of websites that make up UCI's web presence.

What this means to you:

Search Users: Most users will not notice or be affected by this change. If you run a particular search often, you may notice minor differences in results ordering in the new search.

Website Owners / Developers: If you use the campus-supported web templates in Cascade, there will be no need to make changes to your site. If you manage your site outside of the templates, or have a vendor who manages your site for you, please see the Developers tab below for the instructions to add or change your search code.

Crawling Your Site

To have your site added to the search results, simply open a ticket. Please include the full url of the homepage for your site (example:

Once your site has been added, the search crawler will periodically visit your site to ensure new pages are added to search results and expired/deleted content is removed.

Code Examples

To perform web searches only

This example uses minimal markup for a web-only search form.

<form action="" method="get">
    <label for="search-text">Search</label>
    <input id="search-text" name="q" placeholder="Search..." type="text"/>
    <button name="type" type="submit" value="Web">Go</button>

Adding an option to search the campus directory

Here we add a second button with a value of "People".

<form action="" method="get">

    <label for="search-text">Search</label>

    <input id="search-text" name="q" placeholder="Search..." type="text"/>

    <button name="type" type="submit" value="Web">Web</button>
