Telephone & Voicemail

OIT provides Aastra-, Ericsson-, and Mitel- branded analog and digital phones and Cisco VOIP phones to the UCI campus. Below are some frequently-asked questions and answers but there is more information on the main telephone page. If you are having trouble accessing your voicemail, please use the self-service reset request form as the Help Desk cannot process voicemail security code reset requests via email or phone. Some key things to remember are:

  • If you are ordering new phone service or requesting changes to existing phone service, there is no need to contact the OIT Help Desk. Simply complete and submit the OIT-Service Request Form.
  • If you are reporting an issue with your existing phone or service (e.g. a broken phone, damaged buttons, issues with the line like no dial tone, etc.), you must open a ticket (or call the OIT Help Desk and we will open a ticket on your behalf) for the Telecom Field Tech team.

When reporting a problem with your telephone service, to expedite your request please provide the following:

  • the phone number that is having trouble
  • the building name or number
  • the room/office number
  • the wall jack number (not required)
  • and a telephone number where you can be reached (if your desk phone is not working)

Failure to provide these may result in delays in service. Thank you for your cooperation.

I have no dial tone/I have no display on my phone.

The quickest way to resolve these issues is to ensure your phone cord is firmly plugged in to the back of the phone and in the jack in the wall. If they are, we recommend you 'reboot' the phone by unplugging it from the wall and then plugging it back. If the problem persists after rebooting the phone, please open a ticket or call (949) 824-2222.

I'm locked out of voicemail.

  1. Go to the Voicemail Security Code Reset Form.
  2. Fill out your 5-digit extension number (e.g. 4xxxx)
  3. Select "Voicemail account locked" as your reason for security code change.
  4. Click "Order Now" on the top right of the page.

I forgot my voicemail security code.

  1. Go to the Voicemail Security Code Reset Form.
  2. Fill out your 5-digit extension number (e.g. 4xxxx)
  3. Select "Forgot voicemail security code" as your reason for security code change.
  4. Click "Order Now" on the top right of the page.

I have a new phone and need to setup my voicemail.

If the voicemail box already exists and you would like to change the owner:

  1. Go to the Voicemail Security Code Reset Form.
  2. Fill out your 5-digit extension number (e.g. 4xxxx)
  3. Select "Reinitialize existing mailbox for new owner" as your reason for security code change.
  4. Click "Order Now" on the top right of the page.

I'd like to report a problem with one of the UCI Blue Emergency Phones.

There are a number of emergency phones around campus that anyone can use to report an emergency. These phones are hardwired to UCI Police dispatch, which is open 24/7/365. If you'd like a report a problem with one of these phones, please contact the OIT Help Desk immediately to report the problem. NOTE: If you are calling about a blue emergency phone in Vista Del Campo, Camino del Sol, or Puerta del Sol, bear in mind that OIT does not service the actual phones. We can *only* ensure that there is a working dial tone. If there is a dial tone but you're reporting some other problem with the phone itself (caller can't be heard, etc.), please contact the American Campus Communities housing office in those communities.

How do I block a phone number from calling me?

OIT is unable to block incoming phone numbers. Note: the National Do Not Call Registry is only for personal phone numbers.  Business-to-business calls and faxes are not covered. Visit https://www.donotcall.gov/ for more information about the National Do Not Call Registry.

However, if you are being harassed by someone, please contact UCIPD immediately so they can investigate the claim and direct OIT on how to proceed.

Can I order a headset from OIT?

OIT does not provide headsets, nor do we recommend one brand over another. Please partner with your manager and ask that a headset be purchased for you.  OIT field techs can install your headset once you have received it, simply complete the Service Request Form.

I'm unable to dial certain area codes and/or place international calls.

Your department must authorize an expanded calling area and the change in "class of service" is done by submitting the Service Request Form.

I filled out the SRF, but how do I check the status of the work order?
