Tips and Tests
This information may help you resolve problems you are having with your campus telephone. We have found that as many as 50% of all repair calls are resolved by simple tests and adjustments you can perform yourself. We recommend that you investigate the following possible solutions before calling for repair.
Problem | Check For |
---|---|
No ring | is the bell volume turned up? is the set plugged in? is the phone programmed to ring? is the line on call divert? are all extension instruments on the hook? |
No dial tone | is the set/handset plugged in? are all extension instruments on the hook? |
Line is busy when not in use | is your line on call divert? is the phone line shared with an answering machine or modem? (if yes, plug phone directly into the jack) |
Display on multi-button phone is not working | reset phone by unplugging for 15 seconds |
Broken/stuttered dial tone | this indicates a Voicemail message is waiting to be retrieved or that call diversion is active. |
