The UC Irvine Athletics IT programming team (part of the Office of Information Technology department) delivers application, database, and web solutions that assist Athletics Staff and students comply with University, NCAA, and BigWest policies through online platforms, collaboration tools, and data integrity and security best practices.

This position will be part of the Athletics IT Programming staff, with a focus on the unique needs of student-athletes. The incumbent will be working with a small team focused on developing usable, high-quality, and maintainable applications.

This position will play a significant role in the enhancement/modification of existing and future Web Online Applications. Responsibilities include working directly with non-technical functional staff to gather and document system requirements to understand their needs. They will work with other UCI departments to acquire and analyze student-athlete coursework and grades for NCAA Eligibility Certification and tracking of Progress Towards Degree reports. Provide access to Academic Advisors to be able to certify enrolled classes. Assist with the communication between student-athletes and their professors in relation to the sport’s NCAA competitions, team travel, and the schedule of classes. Enhance the resources available to the student-athletes by further developing the student-athlete intranet and other available platforms.

Must be adept at communicating technical terms and concepts with functional users using non-technical terms and concepts. Will refine verbally gathered requirements, create associated business rules, and design online functions, views, and reports. Documents and updates user requirements. Ensures specifications adhere to policies and standards. Will demo applications to stakeholders, gather feedback, launch, and incorporate lessons learned to improve software development process going forward. Garners approval and sign-off from stakeholders and applicable parties prior to implementation.
