The Enterprise Student Management Systems (ESMS) Unit within the UCI Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides support for the systems and applications used by six large, complex and mission critical business units: Financial Aid and Scholarships, Financial Services, Graduate Division, Office of the Registrar, Summer Session, and Undergraduate Admissions. The support provided includes daily operational support, monitoring, incident management and troubleshooting; new development, maintenance, upgrades and enhancements to a diverse group of complex in-house developed applications, systems, integrations, data extracts and reports; and support for third-party software products and their integration with other systems.
Under the supervision of the Registrar IT Lead, the Registrar Systems Developer and Operations Support will serve as an operational contact for Registrar system service incidents by resolving and escalating of service tickets as they are assigned to the team. Identify and troubleshoot known issues, identify high priority issues and escalate appropriately. Communicate in a helpful, timely, and supportive manner to all campus clients and colleagues. Identify opportunities for improvement in processes or programs. Create/update/improve documentation of troubleshooting and issue management process for operational issues identified. Provide feedback for improved efficiency in operations service intake and management processes. Collaborate with campus IT commodity services to maintain and patch Registrar servers and implement the latest security techniques. Assist in scheduling appropriate downtime to limit production impacts and ensure Registrar services are restored successfully after updates. Serve as a developer for the Registrar IT team in support of the Office of the Registrar. The Registrar system is the system of record for student enrollment information on campus and is a central data source for academic student information for many clients and campus stakeholders through many complex system integrations. Collaborate with Registrar IT colleagues and business unit to develop, update, or integrate programs and scripts in the Registrar system primarily in java and SQL but may also include bash scripting, perl scripting, and interaction with Cobol programs. Write, maintain, debug, test, install, and document programs and processes relevant to any changes made in these programs/processes. Follow OIT’s Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and best practices for information systems development and management. Participate in programming efforts that interface with the larger ESMS development group and the associated project managers, and BSAs on system enhancements and implementations of large, complex web-based and rich client-based administrative applications having widespread impact on campus. Adhere to the principles and processes of strong project management and software development.
