Summary of Position Responsibilities

As a Student Application Developer, the candidate will be working with experienced software developers to build and maintain web-based tools programmed with PHP, Javascript, MySQL, and other technologies.

The candidate should be prepared to work collaboratively with the development team. Strong communication and cooperation between team members through the design, development, implementation, and quality assurance phases are essential to this position.

This is a position that will provide the candidate with many opportunities to expand his or her skill set and gain valuable work experience that can be used inside or outside the University.

Summary of Job Duties and Requirements

Work is skilled in nature, requiring independent judgment using well developed guidelines. The position requires good interpersonal skills to effectively address user needs. In addition,

Candidates must have:

  • Strong understanding of the fundamentals of computer science and software engineering
  • Working knowledge of web technologies such as JavaScript, PHP, and HTML/CSS
  • Familiarity with UNIX/Linux
  • Ability to maintain a positive team attitude and demonstrate professional behavior
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Full-time UCI student status
  • Availability to work an average of 15 hrs/wk


  • Experience in front-end and back-end web application development
  • Experience writing relational SQL queries
  • Working with source code version control such as Git


Applicants must be able to provide code samples and/or a public code repository (such as GitHub) that includes the applicant’s own sample commits. Any code that demonstrates your skills as a software developer will work. Web development related samples are a plus!
