Summary of Position Responsibilities

Under direct supervision, the employee provides technical services to staff and selected visitors of our facilities. This is a technical position, requiring basic computer skills on Windows and Mac platforms, as well as popular cell phones and tablets. Responsibilities may include troubleshooting, maintenance, light hardware upgrades and light clerical tasks. We will train as needed, but personal interaction skills are of paramount importance. Previous experience working in technical support is desired, but comparable experience is acceptable.

Important Note: This is not a programming position.

Summary of Job Duties and Requirements

Work is skilled in nature, requiring independent judgment using well developed guidelines. Duties include performing first-level help desk and in-field support for athletics staff, athletics visitors, and media representatives who access network and computing resources in our facilities. This involves providing technical assistance, light software instruction, routine as well as emergency maintenance of computing equipment in offices, arenas, and outdoor facilities. The position requires:

  • Good interpersonal skills to effectively address user needs
  • Knowledge of basic operating system functions, programs, and typical login procedures
  • A self-motivated approach to work
  • Time-management skills, with the ability to handle projects in various locations and facilities efficiently
  • A high level of responsibility and accuracy in fielding questions, reporting issues, and following through on service requests

Responsibility and dependability is a must.

Student employee shifts are flexible, but at least half the hours will include evenings and weekend hours.
