The UC Recruit Development & Support team of UCI’s Office of Information Technology is currently hiring a student Web Developer to develop and maintain UC Recruit, the faculty recruitment web application used by all 10 University of California campuses.

As a student Web Developer, the candidate will be working with an experienced agile software development team to develop and maintain a cloud-based web application built with Ruby On Rails. We are a team that actively works toward diversity and practices inclusion, and we need your voice.
The candidate will learn to work collaboratively with a small development team and will be programming on a modern web technology stack composed of Ruby On Rails, Webpack, MySQL, AWS, Redis and more.
The student Web Developer responsibilities include correcting bugs, implementing new features and providing code reviews to other developers.
The ideal candidate possesses strong programming skills, a willingness to learn and excels at communicating and cooperating with other team members. Prior experience with Ruby On Rails or web application development is preferred but not required. We will train the candidate on the technologies composing our stack as needed.
This is a position that will provide the candidate with many opportunities to expand his or her skill set and gain valuable work experience that can be used inside or outside the University.
Candidates must have:
  • Strong understanding of the fundamentals of computer science and software engineering
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript and HTML/CSS
  • Demonstrable experience with another programming language (e.g.: Ruby, PHP, Python, Java)
  • Ability to maintain a positive team attitude and demonstrate professional behavior
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Full-time UCI student status
Preferred (Will train):
  • Experience working with source code version control such as Git
  • Real-world experience in front-end and back-end web application development
  • Experience working with Ruby and the framework Ruby On Rails
  • Experience working with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL
Strong candidates should be able to provide code samples and/or a public code repository (such as GitHub) that include the applicant’s own sample commits. Any code that demonstrates your skills as a software developer will work. Web development-related samples are a plus!
Salary range: $17.00 – $22.00 per hour, depending on experience
