The Academic Web Technologies team in the Office of Information Technology at UCI is currently hiring for a Web Application Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer student assistant.
The candidate will work in a collaborative agile development environment with the Office of Information Technology EEE web development team to ensure the quality of new and enhanced web applications, create and run automated testing scripts, assist technical support staff by testing aspects of the Learning Management System, and draft related documentation.

Preferred (Will train):
  • Knowledge of Agile practices, with emphasis on Scrum
  • Working knowledge of Selenium or other web application testing tools a plus
  • Familiarity with software quality assurance testing: writing testing specifications, executing tests, etc.
  • Familiarity with using API for testing
  • Experience writing end-user documentation and other technical documentation
  • Experience using spreadsheet programs, such as MS Excel or Google Spreadsheet


The candidate will be participating in software quality assurance testing for homegrown web applications (e.g. EEE+ Scout, EEE+ ScoreShare, EEE+ Evaluations, and others). In the course of this work, the candidate should be prepared to approach web applications from a detail-oriented perspective, thoroughly confirming expected functionality and testing unexpected behavior as well. The candidate must show creativity in anticipating the actions of a diverse user base with varying needs and aptitudes with technology.
The candidate will collaborate closely with full-time Quality Assurance (QA) staff on development of test plans, performance of tests, documentation of outcomes, and verification of issue resolution. The candidate will also work directly with programmers, user experience designers, and technology support specialists to understand features in development and prepare documentation, tutorials, support materials, and reports as assigned.
The candidate will need to take thorough and detailed notes, including annotated screenshots where applicable, and be prepared to review and discuss observations, errors, and suggestions with the tools’ developers.
The candidate will also support and develop test cases using an automation tool, Selenium WebDriver for Python, for testing specific applications to help reduce manual testing time. This will utilize the candidates programming skills to maintain and manage the Quality Assurance process for the QA team.
On an as-needed basis, the candidate will assist technical support staff by consulting technical documentation, creating test scenarios, and drafting step-by-step instructions for the learning management system.
This is a position that will provide the candidate with many opportunities to expand his or her skill set and gain valuable real-world work experience within a team environment.

Additional Information

On-campus: OIT Offices, Multipurpose Science & Technology Building (MSTB) —Map

Shifts are scheduled within OIT business hours, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.
During the regular school year, candidates may work 12-19.5 hours per week.
During Summer Session, candidates may work between 20 and 40 hours per week.
Salary range

$17.00 – $21.00 per hour, depending on experience
