Be Alert! UCI Targeted by W-2 Email Scams

The Office of Information Technology has detected fraudulent emails purporting to be from UCOP and UC Irvine authorities, targeting personal tax information, wire transfers, EFTs, etc. These emails ask employees to send copies of W-2s and other sensitive financial information, unsecured via email.

The University of California will never ask you to send sensitive tax documents or personal financial information by email.

If you receive on odd request for personal information, verify it with the sender by some method other than email.

There have been various news stories of the impact of these scams including this one: http://krebsonsecurity.com/2016/03/seagate-phish-exposes-all-employee-w-2s/
