Apporto Virtual Lab Account Deletions

by | May 17, 2023 | Home Page News, News

On July 10, 2023, all student, faculty, and staff user accounts on Apporto Virtual Computer Lab will be DELETED. Please plan ahead and save any data or work prior to this day to prevent any loss of data. There will be NO BACKUPS made.

The Apporto Virtual Computer Lab will be unavailable during this maintenance window from July 10, 2023, to July 14, 2023.

FAQ and Details of this Transition

Why is this happening?

The Apporto Virtual Computer Lab currently operates on an older and almost unsupported version of server software. Upgrading to a newer version is necessary to ensure the continuation of this service and enhance its performance and availability.

Why is my account being deleted?

Our site is currently over the maximum amount of allowed user space with Apporto host servers. This is causing performance and accessibility issues.

How do I move my data?

There are two options for moving your data.

We recommend mounting your UCI Google Drive within your Apporto virtual desktop and copying those files over. Learn how to mount your cloud drive.

Will Apporto Virtual Computer Lab be down during the maintenance window?

Yes. This maintenance downtime is needed for a proper upgrade. The Apporto Virtual Computer Lab will be down from July 10, 2023, to July 14, 2023.

What if I need to do work during the downtime?

OIT has on-premise Drop-In computer labs all throughout campus. You can use one of these labs. We also have remote lab computer access through Splashtop.
