Additional security updates are coming as part of the UC Presidential Cybersecurity Mandate, which requires all UC campuses to protect sensitive data and defend against growing cyber threats like ransomware.
What’s Changing
Starting July 16, 2025, the ZotDefend Security Package will be required to access:
- Canvas
- Time Reporting System (TRS)
- UCPath
These systems will join KFS, DocuSign, FacNet, and others as services protected by ZotDefend.
What You Need to Do
If you use a university-issued computer:
- Faculty and staff in schools: Your school IT director will continue to coordinate with you to install ZotDefend.
- Faculty and staff managed by OIT or Health IT: Your computer has the required software installed automatically. No action is needed.
- College of Health Sciences: Not sure if you are managed by Health IT? Please reference our FAQ.
If you use a personal or unmanaged computer for work:
- You’ll need to download and install ZotDefend yourself. This only takes a few minutes. Instructions and support are available on the ZotDefend Service Page.
- Mobile devices are exempt and do not require ZotDefend.
Take Action Now
To avoid disruptions on July 16, we recommend installing ZotDefend as soon as possible.
If you have questions, please reach out to your local IT support or OIT Security at security@uci.edu.
Thank you for doing your part to help protect UCI’s systems, data, and community.
