As of September 30th, Google Chrome will start rolling out version 141. This update includes a new security feature that may affect how some campus websites interact with your computer.
This update introduces a one-time permission prompt when a website tries to connect to a local application—used by services like Duo Desktop in systems such as KFS and DocuSign.
What’s Changing
Chrome will now display a one-time permission prompt when a website tries to connect to software installed on your computer.
This affects services that use Duo Desktop, such as DocuSign, KFS and TRS.
What You’ll See
When you access a service that relies on Duo Desktop, you might see a prompt from Chrome that asks you to Allow access.
If the prompt is for a trusted campus service, you can simply click Open Duo Desktop, Allow or Always Allow to grant permission. You should only have to do this once per website.
Do not allow access to unknown or suspicious websites.
Important Notes
- This change only applies to Google Chrome.
- Other browsers like Microsoft Edge and Firefox are not affected.
