Remote Computer Lab

 

 

 

OIT is introducing a new Remote Computing Lab service starting winter quarter 2022 that will allow UCI affiliates to connect remotely to the computers in select on-campus instructional labs. This will allow the remote use of campus licensed software installed on these computers and access to Windows-based computers for coursework. We are using a service called Splashtop in order to provide a secure, fast, and feature-rich remote access connection.

Please Note: While in-person campus instruction is in effect, the Remote Computing Lab computers will be only be available after the instructional labs are closed for the day. If campus is in a remote learning posture, the RCL will be set to be available at all times except for a few hours in the early morning for patching and maintenance.

Ways to access Splashtop

Windows

Download, install and configure the Splashtop Client

 

Get Started:

    1. If the file is saved, the install file will be located in the folder specified by your browser (By default, most browsers will save files to the Downloads folder). Locate the install file that you downloaded. It will be named "Splashtop_Business_Win_INSTALLER_v" followed by the version number.Splashtop PC - Downloads Folder
    2. Double click on the file to start the installation. If you see a UAC prompt, click "Yes" to allow the installation to run. If the UAC prompt requires a password, enter your Windows username and password.Splashtop PC - UAC Prompt
    3. Allow the installation to run, after it completes, you'll see the following prompt notifying you that the installation is successful.Splashtop PC - Setup Complete
    4. After installing, the application should open automatically. If not, you can find Splashtop Business icon will be on your desktop or in the start menu.Splashtop PC - Icon
    5. The application will open to a login screen. Choose Single Sign-On login. This is important to be able to sign in.Splashtop PC - Login
    6. Enter your UCINetID email address and click Log In.Splashtop PC - SSO
    7. This will redirect you to UCI Authentication page. Enter your credentials and complete Duo MFA Authentication.
    8.  After logging in, you should see your list of computers that you can connect to. Double click on the computer that is ready to be used.Splashtop PC - Usage Icons
    9. You will be presented with login screen of the computer. Log into the computer with you UCInetID and password.

Mac

Download, install and configure the Splashtop Client

Get Started:

    4. If a security prompt shows up, please enter your Mac username and password.Splashtop MAC - Credentials
    5. After the installation has completed, you will see this screen.Splashtop MAC - Success
    6. After installation is complete, open up the Streamer and you'll see the following prompt. Please click on "Confirm" to complete installation.Splashtop MAC - Allow Access
    7. After installing, the application should open automatically. If not, you can find it in the Start menu for Windows, and inside the Applications folder for Mac.Splashtop PC - Icon

Splashtop FAQ

I don't see any computers in the list?

Access to the remote lab is only available after the computer labs are closed. When they are closed the computers will appear on the list.

Does Splashtop work with any other devices?

Yes Splashtop can be used with other devices. They are listed here: Splashtop Remote Desktop & Remote Support Software

At this time only Mac and Windows are supported by OIT.
