Microsoft 365

Quicklink(s)

Microsoft 365 (formerly Microsoft Office 365) is a suite of software that includes Microsoft Office applications, Exchange Email and Calendar, OneDrive, and more.

Microsoft 365 & Free Software for the Campus Community

Through a UC systemwide agreement, all eligible students, faculty, and staff have a Microsoft 365 account  (M365) with an A5 license, giving you access to a comprehensive suite of cloud services, productivity tools, and enhanced security features. Your M365 account is also required to connect to the new UCI-WiFi network rolling out this fall.

All members of the campus community can use the full range of applications and free software, including:

  • Microsoft 365 Apps: Download the full desktop versions of applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook for your personal computers and mobile devices.
  • Cloud Collaboration & Storage: Work together seamlessly with Microsoft Teams for conferencing and instant messaging, and use Microsoft OneDrive for file storage and sharing.
  • AntSoft: Use your M365 account to log in to AntSoft, the central portal for obtaining software licenses covered by campus-wide agreements.

Important Details for Your Account

While the core services are the same for everyone, there are some key differences based on your role:

Email & Calendaring

  • Undergraduate students and certain graduate students use UCI Gmail as their primary email and calendar service.
  • Faculty and career staff primarily use Microsoft 365 for their email and calendaring needs.

Storage & Collaboration

  • For students, it is highly recommended that you use your UCI Google Workspace account for your primary file storage and collaboration.
  • Your OneDrive storage quota is determined by your affiliation. Storage limits for students are different from those for faculty and career staff.

Retiring: Technology OIT is actively looking to get rid of, consolidate from, or shift out of its existing portfolio. A technology entering the retiring stage should have a ServiceNow project defined and have requested funding from the ATPF Committee if funds are required to retire it.
Declining: Technology that OIT is reducing or intends to reduce its user base, investment and/or current spend on. These technologies should be evaluated annually as candidates for the Retiring stage.
Core:Technologies that are the foundation of the services OIT delivers. When we consider new or expanding services, leveraging these technologies should be our first option. As technical owners consider the fitness of these technologies, changes to that fitness should inform the stage.
Emerging: This is newer technology that OIT is investing in to scale out and move into its core portfolio.
