Duo Multi-factor Authentication
Quicklink(s)
Duo adds an extra layer of account security by requiring you to verify your identity through a second factor, such as a phone or token, in addition to your password.
New Security Measure for Duo Assistance
If you can’t fix Duo issues on your own, the OIT Help Desk has a new way to help. They’ll send you a video link when you contact them. This video chat helps make sure it’s really you asking for help. This keeps your account safe and protects everyone at UCI from security risks.
What is Duo?
Duo is a multi-factor authentication application. It adds a second layer of protection by requiring you to verify it’s you after you login with your UCInetID and password. You use something you know (your password) plus something you have (a smartphone or device). This extra layer of protection prevents anyone but you from logging into your account, even if they know your password.
Duo + UCInetIDs
Every account that uses your UCInetID will require Duo to verify it is you. All employees and students need to be enrolled in Duo and have it set it up when logging in to any system with your UCInetID and password.
UCI Duo supports a range of electronic devices including:
- iOS smartphones and tablets
- Android smartphones and tablets
- Hardware tokens, such as OIT-issued tokens or third-party tokens like YubiKey
