UCInetID

Your UCInetID is your electronic identification used for many online services at the University of California, Irvine.

Services such as ZotPortalWebFilesWebmail and OIT Mailbox Services, EEEWebReg require you to use your UCInetID and password in order to log in. It is for your individual use only and you should not share your password with anybody else. OIT offers sponsored UCInetIDs and group UCInetIDs for special situations.

Use of your UCInetID or any other network resource at UCI constitutes acceptance of the UCI Computer and Network Use Policy.

How do I activate my UCInetID?

To activate your UCInetID, you'll need an ID number first. New employees will get their ID number from their department's payroll coordinator, and student applicants will be sent their ID number when they first apply to UCI.

Once you have the ID number, visit our website activate.uci.edu to activate your UCInetID. You'll also need to provide date of birth and last 4 digits of your Social Security Number (if you don't have a SSN try entering zeros or leaving it blank, and if you're a student applicant, you should use the number you entered on your UC Application).

I'm getting the error 'No Record Found' when I try to activate.

You're entering different information than what we have on file. Here's what you should do if you're an undergraduate applicant:

  • The last 4 of the SSN and DOB you're entering may be different than what you provided on your UC Application. If you mistyped either of these numbers on the application, please correct it. Note that it will take up to 3 days before the change is updated in our system.  If you don't have a SSN but put some other number in that field, use the last 4 digits of that number to activate your UCInetID.

If you're a new employee:

  • Check with your hiring manager and ask them what SSN & DOB was entered into payroll. They will need to fix it; unfortunately, we cannot.
  • If we can't find your Employee ID# in the system, ask your hiring manager to verify the Employee ID# they gave you.
    • If you were just put into the payroll system today, it takes 1 business day before you can activate.

If you're a University Extension/Continuing Education student:

  • You must wait 3 days before trying to activate your UCInetID because it can take that long before the Continuing Education department transmits your data to us.

I'm having trouble activating my UCInetID. What am I doing wrong?

During the activation process, you must enter all the required information in the format requested (DOB must be entered as MMDDYY for example).

If you mistype any information on the activation page, you will see an error message in RED near the top of the page telling you what needs to be fixed. The most common reason why users have trouble with the activation process is because they mistype information or the password they're entering does not meet the minimum requirements.

I'm getting the error 'you do not have the proper information to continue' when I try to reset my password.

The error message "you do not have the proper information to continue" means you're trying to reset a password for an account you haven't activated yet. Visit activate.uci.edu and select one of the links on the top of the page to get started.

'This account or host has been temporarily locked out from too many unsuccessful logins.'

As a security measure, your account is temporarily locked out when you try one too many times to enter the incorrect UCInetID and/or password.

When this happens, just wait at least 30 minutes from your last failed attempt and your account will automatically be unlocked. If you don't wait at least 30 minutes from your last failed attempt, it will restart the timer.

Remember your UCInetID is the first part of your email address before the @ symbol (e.g. panteate). It is not your ID number.

The OIT Help Desk is unable to override this lockout.

What does 'the resource requires you to re-authenticate' error mean?

There are a couple of reasons why you'll see this error message:

  • You're trying to access a site that you are not authorized to access
  • Your device has two IPs and we're not sure which one is valid.

Access to certain web services is restricted based on your affiliation. For example, alumni are not allowed to access the Online Directory Tool PHUpdate after graduation because that tool is restricted to current students only. If you think you should have access to a certain web service but are getting this error, please contact the Help Desk.

The IP mismatch error is rare and only affects laptop users. It occurs when your web browser thinks your laptop has two IP addresses, and it doesn't know which one is valid.

  • This can happen when you're connected to the campus Wi-Fi but then plug your laptop into Ethernet.
  • It can also happen when you're connected to Ethernet but then change to a public Wi-Fi network such as a café or airport.

The solution is to click to "Logout" link in the upper right-hand corner and then log back in, or just restart your computer.

I just changed my UCInetID. Can you forward my email to my new address?

Yes. By default, we will forward your email from your old UCInetID to your new UCInetID for 1 year.

I am no longer enrolled or employed at UCI, but I need a UCInetID because I'm still working in some capacity at UCI.

Former students and employees who are still working with someone at UCI in some capacity (e.g. volunteer faculty at the UCIMC, researchers etc) and require an active UCInetID should ask whomever they are working with to sponsor them for a Guest UCInetID. The sponsor will need to fill out a form on our website. The OIT Help Desk cannot reactivate an archived UCInetID of a former student or employee.

Former UCIMC employees should email the HS Help Desk for support.

I'm about to retire/have recently retired. Can I keep my UCInetID?

Yes! There is a form on the Center for Emertii & Retirees website that you must download and fill out. Instructions on next steps are in the form.

I forgot or don't remember what my UCInetID is.

Remember that your UCInetID is the first part of your UCI email address (it is NOT your ID number).

If you are a current faculty, staff, student or guest and you've forgotten what your UCInetID is, you can look it up in the UCI Directory by simply searching for your name. All current faculty, staff, student or guest UCInetIDs are published in the directory.

I've tried the steps above and I'm still having issues
