If you are a current LastPass Enterprise user, please hold off on requesting a new 1Password Business account. The migration process has started and active users will be added on in phases. You will be added automatically.

Request a new 1Password Business account
Use the 1Password Request form and select Add Account from the drop down menu. However, if you are already using UCI LastPass Enterprise, please wait. We are in the process of migrating active LastPass Enterprise accounts to 1Password Business accounts. We are doing these in phases.

Is 1Password free for UCI faculty, staff and students?
Yes, UCI provides 1Password free of charge to all currently enrolled students and employed staff and faculty. This is part of our commitment to enhance digital security.
Can I use 1Password on multiple devices?
Absolutely! 1Password can be used across various platforms including Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android. You can sync your account across all your devices.
How secure is 1Password?
1Password’s approach to security is robust and includes the following:
- Secret Key: One of the main features that sets 1Password apart is its use of a Secret Key in addition to the master password. This Secret Key is created locally on your device when you set up 1Password and is never stored on 1Password’s servers. It adds an extra layer of security because even if someone obtains your master password, they still need the Secret Key to access your account.
- Travel Mode: 1Password’s Travel Mode allows you to remove sensitive data from your devices when crossing borders and then restore it with a click once you’ve arrived. This feature can protect your data from unwarranted searches.
- Watchtower Feature: 1Password’s Watchtower service provides a range of security checks, including monitoring for compromised websites, weak passwords, and expiring passwords, adding an additional layer of security awareness.
- Encryption: 1Password uses AES-256 bit encryption and the combination of this with the Secret Key offers a unique double-layer of encryption.
- Zero-Knowledge Architecture: 1Password operates on a zero-knowledge model, meaning they don’t have access to your passwords or data. 1Password’s addition of the Secret Key further enhances this aspect.
Why is UCI moving to 1Password instead of using LastPass?
Due to the way LastPass has handled their breach and the needs of campus, it was decided upon to move from LastPass Enterprise to 1Password Business.
How can I migrate my LastPass passwords to 1Password?
Please see the section “Exporting and Importing Data from LastPass Enterprise” in the 1Password Business Help article.
Can administrators see my information?
1Password has a default feature for Owners (those in charge of billing and account administration) to have access to vaults for administrative purposes only. They cannot see passwords in the vaults. Apart from the Owners, no one else has any access to information for other accounts.
How can I reset my account password?
Use the 1Password Request Form and select Reset Account Password.
What will happen to my 1Password Business account once I leave the organization?
The business account is only used for UCI-affiliated work. Your account will be moved into a trial state for 14 days. You will then have the option to continue paying for the account. If you choose not to continue, the account will be placed into a frozen state where credentials can be accessed and exported but not updated or added to.
What if I have an individual 1Password account with my UCI email address already?
You will have the option to change your account into a Business account under UCI’s license.
